You have to have a lot of faith to give up your day job and open a sports memorabilia store but Rick and Rodney Currence did just that back in the 1990’s. The Maryland residents weren’t alone. Hundreds of other people around the country were doing the same thing. Eventually, the bottom dropped out for many but the Currence brothers were committed.
They expanded into autographs and made sure to keep their regular customers happy. The result is that they’re still in business some 22 years later.
Not only that, but they’re now among a new ownership group for the long-running Collectors Showcase of America card and autograph shows in Chantilly, VA. Their first event in that role is coming up in a little over two weeks.
Most of the autographs in their shop are signatures they’ve witnessed. Mix in some cards and other items and the future seems bright.
“Nobody needs what we sell,” Rodney tells Gazette.Net in this feature story on their business. “… But it’s very cool.”
