A 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle graded PSA 8 (nm/mt) and a 1966 Topps Mantle game-worn road jersey sold for more than $700,000 in Heritage Auctions’ Platinum Night event in Chicago.
The auction, which offered only premium-type vintage cards and high-end sports memorabilia, was conducted in association with the National Sports Collectors Convention.
The ’52 Mantle brought $382,400 while the jersey sold for $322,650.
The last PSA 8 Mantle card from the iconic 1952 set sold just eight months ago for $268,664.
Another Mantle, also rated PSA 8, will be sold Friday night via Goldin Auctions in an event at the Muvico Theater in Chicago.
Total sales in the Heritage Auction pushed past $6.1 million.
A 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente rookie card brought $310,700 including the buyer’s premium. Remarkably, the last ’55 Clemente in a PSA 9 grade sold in 2006 via Mastro Auctions for ‘just’ $36,311.
William ‘The Refrigerator’ Perry’s Super Bowl XX ring, including an LOA from the former Chicago Bears defensive tackle/running back, sold for $203,150.
An 1860 Brooklyn Atlantics CDV consigned by the family of a player pictured on the card received national media attention earlier this month and sold during the Heritage Auction for $179,250.
