Over 30 NBA jerseys, most once worn by some of the game’s greats, have hit the auction block.
The jerseys are from the personal collection of Dr. Steven Solow, a Phiiladelphia area pediatric dentist who built the collection over several decades. Many originated from direct team sources and several include letters from NBA franchises dating to the 1970-1990s period.
“We are very excited to bring the collection of Dr. Solow to public auction,” said Hunt Auctions’ President David Hunt, whose company is offering them in its current internet/phone auction. “This particular collection features a succinct but very substantial grouping of fresh to the market NBA jerseys with impeccable team provenance. We expect outstanding bidding interest in the collection and feel the timing is ideal given the current excitement surrounding the upcoming NBA season here in Philadelphia.”
The collection is highlighted by a rare 1976 Julius Erving Philadelphia 76ers road jersey. The classic royal blue jersey dates to Erving’s first year in the NBA and has been assigned a grade of 8 by MEARS Authentication. The pre-sale estimate is $20,000-$40,000.
Additional highlight jerseys from the collection include:
- 1989-90 Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls road jersey (Est. $15,000-$25,000)
- 1980’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar L.A. Lakers road jersey (Est. $7,500-$12,500)
- 1987-88 Larry Bird Boston Celtics road jersey (Est. $4,000-$6,000)
- 1989-90 Charles Barkley Phila. 76ers road jersey (Est. $1,500-$3,000
- 1993-94 Shaquille O’Neal Orlando Magic road jersey (Est. $1,500-$2,500)
- 1992-93 Hakeem Olajuwon Houston Rockets home jersey (Est. $2,000-$3,000)
In addition to the more significant Hall of Fame player jerseys the collection includes several unique items such as two enormous complete uniforms worn by seven footers Manute Bol and Shawn Bradley. The two centers played for the Philadelphia 76ers during different periods with each uniform framed to a height of over seven feet tall. Another interesting lot is a Charles Barkely custom-made red, white, and blue leather golf bag with clubs. The set is expected to sell between $1,500 and $3,000.
The auction is already online and will continue through September 27.
