Topps kicked off its 2020 Series 1 baseball release with a “Million Card Rip Party” in Dallas Tuesday as case breakers, situated above the playing field at AT&T Stadium, dug into boxes of Series 1, set to officially release on Wednesday.
Topps turned it into a live event, with interviews and video of breakers streamed online beginning in mid-afternoon and lasting into the evening ( video stream is below).
It took over nine hours to reach the one million mark, with the broadcast ending just after midnight.
Over 21,000 jumbo packs of cards were delivered to the stadium in time for the event. Video of in progress breaks and Topps commercials filled the void between interviews with Topps management and breakers.
2019 National League Rookie of the Year Pete Alonso made an appearance, doing a few interviews, chatting with breakers and opening packs.
