Topps released its 2008 Allen & Ginter set to hobby stores this week. Where else can you find pieces of Serena Williams’ tennis dress AND a lock of Lincoln’s hair?
Topps took a stab at something different when it launched a rebirth of the 19th century Allen & Ginter trading cards a couple of years ago.
It was somewhat uncharted territory–baseball cards mixed in with an eclectic mix of politicians and historic or unique figures. But collectors gobbled them up.
A&G returns this week with everything from autographed cards to relics amid the 350-card base set. Popes, Greek Prime Ministers–even some baseball players.
One of the top early pulls was the Abraham Lincoln hair relic 1/1 which is already on eBay with a high bid of $5,000 (as of early Friday).
