Everybody in and around Exeter, Pa., knew Cuz’s. The long-time sports-themed establishment owned by Francesco Stuppino was Steelers country. There was no doubt about that. Stuppino was a life-long fan of the black and gold and a long-time collector, too. On Monday, everything went up in smoke.
Cuz’s Susquehanna Avenue Bar & Grille was destroyed by a fast-moving fire that started when the building was empty. Stuppino was next door, working inside another business he owned. He summoned help quickly and a fireman arrived on scene within a minute, but by the time trucks arrived, the damage was severe.
The blaze started in the kitchen area and was under control in about 15 minutes. Heat and smoke destroyed dozens of pieces in Stuppino’s collection including autographed items from numerous Pro Football Hall of Famers he had on display.
Friends and patrons dropped by to offer support and the family responded on Facebook:
“Our family wants to thank each and everyone of you for the out pour of thoughts prayers coming by to see us.. It all means so much to us.. We are completely devastated all our blood sweat and tears went into our bar and all of the memorabilia that was saved for years is all gone :'( everything gone…. We will rebuild and come back bigger and better…. We have so much support it is overwhelming.”
Watching the place that stored so many memories burn in front of his eyes was a tough thing to do, according to this story in the local paper.
