The top 10 cards from a fresh-to-the-market collection of Zeenut Pacific Coast League baseball cards, including rare 1919 Chicago Black Sox players, are on view at the 2019 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago (July 31 – August 4).
Lelands is offering the cards, which were part of a recent consignment.
Cards of Black Sox players Claude Williams, Swede Risberg and Fred McMullin are in the collection. Among the others are baseball legends Sam Crawford, Harry Heilmann, Tony Lazzeri and Lefty O’Doul.
“The entire collection, which features over 500 cards, is fresh-to the-market and features some of the rarest Zeenut cards in existence,” said Lelands Director of Acquisitions Jordan Gilroy.
The cards were just graded at the show Thursday and four of them now represent the hobby’s top examples. The Fred McMullen was rated 5 by PSA; Lazerri and Risberg were graded 4. A Moses Yellowhorse that was part of the collection is a near mint 7.
Issued by the Collins-McCarthy Candy Company in San Francisco, Zeenut Pacific Coast League baseball cards were produced annually for 28 years (1911 – 1938).
