Strong prices and increasing interest in Olympic memorabilia has led to the formation of a new division at Lelands.
The auction company has enlisted the services of Greg Gallacher, a long-time collector and dealer, to lead “Lelands Olympics”, which will seek out consignments of Olympic-related memorabilia for future auctions.
Olympic items can fetch big prices, especially those pieces associated with memorable moments and personalities.
Gallacher became involved in collecting Olympic memorabilia in 1972, while attending the Summer Games in Munich. His cousin, Hans Fischer, was an alternate distance runner. He also attended the 1980 Winter Games, including the Miracle on Ice victory and eventually built a home near Lake Placid where he serves on the Board of Directors for the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. Attending the Olympics has become a family affair and so has collecting memorabilia. He’s the co-author of the book, “The Unauthorized Guide to Olympic Pins and Memorabilia”.
