He was named the game’s MVP for the third time in his career on Sunday and it didn’t take long for a LeBron James’ 2018 NBA All-Star game jersey to hit the market. The white #23 Nike shirt has come online at NBA Auctions. Within hours of its launch late Tuesday afternoon, the high bid had reached beyond $22,000 with the auction not set to close until March 15.
James wore the jersey in the first half of Team LeBron’s 148-145 victory over team Steph (Curry) at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. He donned it prior to tipoff and proceeded to play 31 minutes, registering a game-high 29 points, ten rebounds, eight assists and a steal.
Sunday’s appearance marked his 14th NBA All-Star Game. He was also named the game’s MVP in 2006 and 2008.
Game-worn James jerseys from special events have routinely sold for $30,000 or more over the last several years with his infamous torn shirt from the Cavs’ season opener this year surpassing $40,000 and a Game 3 jersey from the 2016 NBA Finals selling for $74,500.
The 2018 jersey, a Size 48 with four inches extra length, was tagged prior to the game and is registered into the NBA and MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program. It carries the Cavs’ logo on the front in black with James’ name and number on the back. Above the jersey tag on the bottom are the words “All-Star Edition LA 2018.”
The jersey is one of dozens currently up for bid at Auctions.NBA.com.
