Leaf has released its latest re-pack product—this one focused on graded vintage baseball cards and 1/1 art cards of Hall of Famers.
2014 Legends of the Diamond Baseball is sort of a grab bag of graded cards with a modern, artistic twist tossed into the mix. Inside each pack is one graded card dating from prior to 1970 earlier along with hand-drawn, painted art cards featuring Hall of Famers.
“Everything old is new again,” said Leaf President Brian Gray. “So with our latest release we wanted to bring the collecting community back to when baseball was truly an innocent sport and also to salute its greatest players from yesteryear. These guys still remain icons today.”
The entire set consists of baseball players who have been retired for 40 years or more. Among the randomly inserted cards purchased by Leaf for inclusion into the product are a T206 Ty Cobb (PSA 1.5) 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig (PSA 5), a 1933 Goudey Sport Kings Cobb (PSA 3), a 1948 Leaf Ted Williams (PSA 6), 1949 Bowman Roy Campanella (PSA 8), a 1958 Topps Mantle (PSA 7) and even an autographed 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle.
Bowman, Sweet Caporal, Sport Kings, even Rittenhouse Candy cards are all represented.
The hand-drawn or painted art cards are 1/1, featuring every member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. In fact, every inducted player, manager, executive, Negro Leaguer and umpire is included in the set so now a serious collector or fan can attempt to complete an entire Hall of Fame art card set.
Boxes are selling online for around $250.
