The NBA lockout drags on. For basketball fans that’s not good news. But…it does mean the folks who run the websites of the league’s teams are looking for stories. In the case of the Los Angeles Lakers, they knew right where to go. What better way to rekindle hoop dreams than a tour of the best collection of Lakers memorabilia on the planet?
David Kohler, president of SoCal-based SCP Auctions owns everything from George Mikan’s glasses to Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s goggles. He’s got Magic Johnson’s game-worn Dream Team jersey and dozens of other game-used and game-worn items from the franchise’s history, dating back to the Minneapolis days.
Players and coaches past and present know about the collection and many have been to see it. They know that it may reside in private hands now, but some day, Kohler’s hope is that everyone can see it on display.
We’ve written about it before but the team’s production crew and host Mike Trudell do a bang-up, in-depth job in showing off a Lakers collection that has to be seen to be believed.
