It was one of the more unusual items on eBay over the last week. The mask Kobe Bryant wore for several games after breaking his nose in the All-Star Game got plenty of media attention in southern California (and a little from us) when it was placed in an eBay auction.
The signed game-worn clear face protector turned out to be a big hit among the deep pockets crowd. Bidding closed Tuesday afternoon with a winning bid of $67,100.
No word on who will fork over the cash.
The auction listing indicated that all proceeds would be used to benefit the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation’s Youth Homelessness Initiative. The primary goal of the foundation is to have a positive impact on homeless kids in Los Angeles.
Bidding started at $250 but didn’t stay there long.
Six weeks ago, a piece of velcro–yes, a piece of velcro–from the mask that was cut away by the team trainer sold for $380.
