He only had a cup of coffee in the Majors, but Tom Chism still earned a World Series ring for his devotion to the Baltimore Orioles. Now, that ring is gone thanks to a punk who didn’t show it much love.
Tom Chism had one problem.
He was a first baseman in the same organization that had found Eddie Murray.
Chism enjoyed every minute of a long minor league career, but spent only three at-bats in the big leagues. He was part of the Baltimore Orioles drive to the 1983 World Series, though. Loyalty to the organization had earned him a ring when the O’s beat the Phillies.
His baseball career has been over for a long time now and he never earned enough money to live on easy street–not even close. Chism isn’t complaining, but he’d sure like to have the ring back after a teenage burglar took it, then discarded it after realizing it might be the centerpiece of an evidence trail.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the ring hasn’t been found, but it’s not for lack of trying.
