IndyCar driver Graham Rahal and eBay are partnering to host an online charity auction in honor of Justin Wilson, the racer who lost his life in the aftermath of another driver’s wreck last month.
Wilson, 37, was among the most popular drivers in all of racing. He was was killed when a piece of debris struck him during a race at Pocono International Raceway in Pennsylvania and the sports community has rallied around his wife and two daughters, age 7 and 5.
“Justin was not just an incredible driver, he was an incredible person, teammate and friend. Through this auction, I hope we can raise as much money as possible to help provide for his wife, Jane and Jessica,” said Graham Rahal, IndyCar Series driver for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Throughout the six weeks, there will be six waves of auctions with items including autographed and race-worn helmets being sold through eBay.
eBay users can also sell their own items to support Wilson’s family. Through October 26, sellers who list their items on eBay through the Graham Rahal Foundation’s page will see all of the money generated from those auctions go to Wilson’s family.
Among the items up for bid in the first group of Justin Wilson Auction items are 19 race worn helmets, including those worn in recent IndyCar events by Juan Pablo Montoya, Saga Karam, Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, Ryan Briscoe, Mario Andretti and others. Memorabilia from IndyCar, Formula One, NASCAR, IMSA, WEC, GRC and other series will also be added in the coming weeks.
