For obvious reasons, Jimmy Garoppolo rookie cards weren’t exactly soaring across hobby hot lists during the course of his first three NFL seasons.
But then again, Garropolo isn’t your average NFL story.
After being drafted in 2014, he waited quietly on the bench behind one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, the seemingly ageless Tom Brady. With the exception of a few cameo appearances and a pair of starts during Brady’s 2016 suspension, the jury was mostly still out on the Eastern Illinois University product. A trade to the 49ers became the opportunity he needed and his performance has done wonders for his cards.
He helped engineer a five-game winning streak after his arrival, showing all the tools of an instant star. He’s 6’2 and 225 pounds with a rocket arm and while his career is a little late in blooming, he’s got plenty of time left and collectors been avidly buying Jimmy Garoppolo rookie cards on eBay.
Garoppolo Rookie Cards
As an offensive player picked early in the second round, Garoppolo does have quite a few rookie cards, including low serial numbered rookie patch autographs in Panini National Treasures and Contenders, which have been the two most popular issues.
Topps was still producing football cards at the time and his Platinum and Finest 1/1 Superfractors have been pulled and listed.
During the month of December buyers purchased more than $330,000 worth of Garoppolo rookie cards at an average price of about $76, with over 4,300 sold. However, that doesn’t mean every Jimmy G rookie card has skyrocketed. The supply of base cards from low and middle-range products is strong with many of his cards from those sets still available for under $5 or less in quantity.
The Future
As Brady refused to yield the stage, some collectors no doubt became impatient and ditched his cards for other promising young stars. It’s hard to wait when a player only rides the bench. Those who held out hope and bought low could be seeing a huge return. Now he’s playing for another team with a rich quarterback history itching to get back to the glory days of Joe Montana and Steve Young. Garoppolo football cards could blow up even more when and if that happens. The trade is starting to look like a franchise changer.
