A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced for the armed robbery of a sports card shop in Altoona. Jayson Hodges, 52, of Trafford, will spend 20 to 40 years in state prison, according to WJAC-TV.
Police say Hodges entered Juniata Cards on Sept. 14, 2021, wearing a mask and gloves and armed with a 9 MM handgun. He ordered the owners of the business to a bathroom and stole boxes of trading cards and cash.
The shop’s security cameras captured the incident.
Two days later, Hodges was arrested at his home in Trafford after police matched his vehicle to the one seen leaving the store after the robbery. A search warrant was issued and police found sports cards and a gun. He was wearing some of the same clothing seen in the surveillance video from the store.
Police said Hodges admitted to using some of the money to buy Halloween decorations and other items. According to police, Hodges was on his roof putting up the decorations when the arrest was made. Police say he tried to flee on a bicycle, but was caught and taken into custody.
He was charged with robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats and other related offenses.
District Attorney Pete Weeks says Hodges pleaded guilty earlier this year and has been previously convicted on similar charges since the early 1990s, spending a significant amount of that time incarcerated.
