Topps has added a former UCLA running back to its list of players in an upcoming football set.
Topps has added a well-known athlete who made his mark in another sport to its Magic football set.
Jackie Robinson, a standout running back at UCLA in the 1940s, is pictured in Bruin blue and gold.
Robinson entered UCLA in 1939 where he would become the first athlete in school history to letter in four sports, football baseball, basketball and track. Bfore breaking baseball’s color barrier, Robinson played semi-professional football for both the Honolulu Bears and the Los Angeles Bulldogs.
Topps is randomly inserting this limited edition card into packs of 2009 Topps Magic Football, which ships June 18th. Each hobby box guarantees 3 autographs.
Topps Magic football was one of the company’s first sports card releases, debuting in 1951. The company is bringing back the look of the original set to this year’s issue.
