The sports card hobby isn’t the only collecting arena looking to turn kids into customers.
It’s a little ironic.
A hobby that was designed for kids is now dominated by adults.
Sports card collectors are still a sizable lot, and there are plenty of kids who love to see a box of cards under the Christmas tree or spend their allowance on the latest packs. But the numbers are down from where they were even 15 years ago.
The reasons kids were once collectors of cards, stamps, coins and other things were to get a glimpse of the rest of the world. That’s not really necessary anymore, thanks to technology. It’s a fact of life, according to a story in the Christian Science Monitor.
