In 1992, the concept of owning a baseball card shop wasn’t that novel. Thousands of them dotted the landscape from coast-to-coast. While many have since faded away, American Legends in Scarsdale, New York has continued to thrive.
Mark Rubin and his wife Donna own the shop, which is in the heart of the New York sports scene. They have a large customer base to draw from, but they’ve also had to be aggressive in keeping the store profitable.
Vintage baseball cards are a specialty and while they sell plenty of them both in the store and via the website they’ve maintained for several years, they’ve also managed to become a magnet for collectors who decide to liquidate.
