Hunt Auctions will celebrate the 20th anniversary of operations this year. The changes that have occurred in the sports memorabilia business, let alone the world itself, over the last twenty years are certainly numerous and significant, both for the better and the worse.
“Through all of the bad and good this hobby has seen we are very, very proud to have grown and matured as a company to better serve our clients at the highest level in our industry,” said company president David Hunt.
Specifically, the collection will include tobacco card sets, single cards, related wrappers and packaging, premiums, and high grade condition exemplars. In addition to tobacco card related materials the Caruso collection features hundreds of vintage tobacco packages, tins, signs, and related ephemera dating from the mid 19th century to the 1960s era. The collection is being offered in its entirety for the first time at public auction.
The February auction will additionally include an array of vintage sports memorabilia including a variety of 1952 Topps baseball cards, a Babe Ruth autographed photograph, an estate collection of baseball tobacco cards, including a Sherry Magie error card. Also included is a 2009 Philadelphia Phillies NL Championship ring, and a collection of historic game used baseballs from a former Major League coach, inclusive of Pete Rose’s National League record-breaking hit passing Stan Musial.
