Hunt Auctions’ June Premier Auction is underway with several major collections among the hundreds of lots being offered, most notably the fourth installment of the “Texan Collection” of historic sports cards. Curated over a 40-year period the collection is one of the finest assembled of its type with the initial two offerings establishing record pricing for several card issues.
Among the highlights is a near set of 1914 B18 tobacco blankets, led by a red infield Ty Cobb. The group originated from the famed Copeland Collection, which sold at auction decades ago and includes several exceedingly rare “red infield” variations, among which is the Cobb variant that’s expected to sell between $10,000-$20,000.
Several other private collections of vintage sports cards are up for grabs, led by the second installment of a group of autographed vintage cards that were part of a massive collection Hunt will offer over a period of several years. The first group of cards was sold in their April Premier Auction. Numerous Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, and Joe DiMaggio signed cards from the 1940-1960s will be sold in addition to many other star players such as Sandy Koufax, Jackie Robinson, Wilt Chamberlain, and Johnny Unitas. The collection was assembled by one collector over several decades and is being offered to the public for the first time.
Rounding out the vintage sports card portion of the sale are more lots from a substantive collection of vintage unopened packs dating from the 1940-70s. The collection includes hundreds of items obtained by a private collector and will be sold over the course of several auctions.
Among the current era cards attraction attention is a 2003 Upper Deck Exquisite Emblems of Endorsement LeBron James rookie card graded BGS 8 with a 10 autograph grade. Numbered 1/15, it’s expected to bring between $150,000 and $250,000.
Numerous other fine modern cards will be offered including 2003 Upper Deck Exquisite Scripted Swatches #MJ Michael Jordan (24/25) insert card (Est. $50,000-$100,000).
