2019 was a banner year for rookie cards. From powerful Pete Alonso’s breakout season to the arrival of a couple of great “juniors”–Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr.–collectors have been clamoring for boxes containing first year cards of this year’s class.
Those players and the other 2019 rookies cards aren’t the first issues for most guys, who began appearing on cardboard of some sort immediately after they were drafted. While those, too, can sell for big bucks in autographed form, the market has been increasing for “official” rookie cards, which contain the red, white and blue “RC” designation on the front. Autographs, serial numbered parallels and even standard base cards in high-grade are the target of collectors and investors who are in it for the long haul.
