If there’s one thing Honus Wagner cards may be guilty of it’s guilt by association. Because of the immense publicity heaped upon the T206 card of the Flying Dutchman, others get lost in the shuffle…and may provide an opporunity for those looking to bargain hunt for their collection or their investment stash.
While rising prices have pushed even low grade T206 Wagners well into six figures in recent years, others are tantalizing in their relative low cost combined with rarity. Remember, Wagner’s playing days ended well before the arrival of the 1930s Goudey issues. While you won’t find them a show dealer’s bargain box, you can find lower-graded Wagner cards from his playing days for less than $5,000.
Caramel issues from the same time period as the tobacco cards of Wagner won’t cost nearly as much.
The new website Baseball Card Investment offers more possibilities in Honus Wagner cards.
