Long before John Wooden went on to become a basketball icon at UCLA, he was “Johnny Wooden”, the pride of Martinsville, Indiana.
It’s where he honed his skills in the early days of hoops before moving on to a college career at Purdue University.
Last week, Wooden’s two children boxed up memorabilia from the coach’s career and shipped it to the city for display.
It’s the latest shipment from the family, which is dividing up momentos from Wooden’s life. Some has gone to UCLA, some to Purdue and the remainder to Indiana State, where Wooden also coached.
