Just three weeks into a new year and we’ve already had some major stories to chew on, several in just the last week.
PSA’s move to half grades stirred the pot more than any other hobby topic I’ve seen since in a long time. I’m not surprised by the move, but thought it would have happened sooner. It should have been fairly obvious once the competition was established that PSA didn’t have much wiggle room. The explosion of prices for PSA 9 and 10 vintage sports cards created a disparity that was often unfair. I’ve seen hundreds of PSA 8 graded cards that on another day would be 9’s. Hopefully the new move makes the graders’ jobs a little easier.
By far the most popular question in newsrooms across the country this time of year is "When is the Super Bowl?" Folks who otherwise don’t follow the NFL are planning parties and family get-togethers. They know the game day programming starts sometime after midnight Saturday and ends just before spring training, but they really want to know when the game actually starts. The answer to that–assuming they can clear the field of pre-game festivities on time–is 6:20 PM Eastern on Sunday, February 3.
