Over 600 lots of vintage and modern era sports cards, autographs and other memorabilia will be on the block in a live auction next week.
Hindman, a Chicago based fine art auction house, will conduct the sale June 6 (trading cards) and June 7 (memorabilia).
Among the items in the online catalog is a 1906 Chicago Baseball Champions gold and diamond medallion presented to Cubs pitcher Jacob “Tornado Jake” Weimer after they beat the White Sox in a special post season series. The rare piece could sell for $20,000 or more.
The auction also includes dozens of Michael Jordan autographs, a 1955 National League All-Star team signed baseball, an original Exhibit card vending machine, 1970s era Muhammad Ali training used gloves and headgear, a set of Master badges from Tiger Woods championship years and a silver cast glove and shoe from Jordan’s 32nd birthday celebration in Chicago.
The silver Jordan pieces were commissioned by Jordan’s then wife, Juanita, and produced in Israel by Howard Kaplan, owner of the noted jewelry franchise Henry Kay Jewelers. Only 10 shoes and 10 gloves were produced before the molds were destroyed. Two shoes and two gloves were given to Jordan on his birthday while the rest were given to various charities. The glove is expected to sell for $10,000-$15,000 while the shoe carries a pre-sale estimate of $15,000-$20,000.
The Ali items are fresh to the hobby market and originate from training sessions held on the South side of Chicago in the 1970s. Both have “Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali” printed on the label.
There’s also a 1931 walking stick presented to Connie Mack by the Mayor of Boston; a rare Jostens 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl championship ring salesman sample crafted to William “The Refrigerator” Perry’s size with the original presentation box and a rare 1996 NBA Finals locker room sign autographed by the champion Chicago Bulls, with Beckett authentication letter.
The auction includes a full run of complete Topps Baseball sets from 1957 through the mid-1970s along with a complete set of 1962 Post Cereal cards, near sets of 1961 and ’63 Post, hundreds of vintage star cards and lots, both graded and ungraded as well as dozens of unopened boxes and packs from the last few decades across all sports.
Among the single cards are a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle rookie card graded SGC 2, a 1953 Topps Willie Mays and a 1965 Topps Joe Namath rookie card. Modern era rookie cards and unopened boxes are also among the listings.
Bidding for the June 6 and 7 Sports Memorabilia auction will be held online on Hindman’s Digital Bid Room and other third-party bidding platforms.
