Hall’s World Series Exhibit Includes Multiple Game-Used Pieces

November 18, 2011 By Rich Mueller

What happens to all of the historic pieces of game-used equipment and uniforms from the World Series?  If you’re lucky, sometimes an historic home run ball winds up in your hands.  Otherwise, a lot of it is claimed by Cooperstown.

The story of the unforgettable 2011 Major League Baseball postseason is now told ih “The Cardinals Comeback”, the salute to the World Champions as part of the Autumn Glory exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

2011 World Series memorabiliaFollowing the Cardinals’ World Series-clinching win on Oct. 28, the Museum acquired nearly a dozen artifacts from the both the Cardinals and the Texas Rangers.  Artifacts donated by the Cardinals and featured in the exhibit from the 107th World Series include:

  • Jersey worn by David Freese and the bat he used to hit his game-winning home run in Game 6.
  • Albert Pujols’ spikes from Game 3 when the Cardinals’ slugger tied a record with three home runs.
  • Chris Carpenter’s Game 7 game-worn home jersey.
  • The bat used by Allen Craig to hit his Game 7 home run that broke a 2-2 tie.
  • A bat used by Lance Berkman in Game 7.
  • Cap worn by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa in his last managerial performance before his retirement;
  • Cap worn by Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, to represent a record number of postseason pitching changes.
  • Cap worn by Chris Carpenter after his 1-0 shutout over the Phillies in Game 5 of the NLDS.

Additional items featured in the exhibit to commemorate the Cardinals title include:

  • Press Pins from the Cardinals and Rangers
  • Front pages from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch detailing the Cardinals Comeback
  • Rally Squirrel hand towel giveaway

In addition to these treasures, the exhibit also features artifacts from the American League champions Rangers from the 2011 postseason, including:

  • Jersey worn by Adrian Beltre when he hit three home runs against the Rays in Game 4 of the ALDS.
  • Batting gloves used by Nelson Cruz during Game 2 of the ALCS when he hit the first walk-off grand slam in postseason history.

The 2011 World Series exhibit in Autumn Glory will be on display through the 2012 Major League Baseball postseason. Entrance to the Autumn Glory exhibit is included with Museum admission.

The Museum collections contain many artifacts documenting the entire history of World Series and postseason play, including Don Larsen’s cap and Yogi Berra’s mitt from Larsen’s 1956 perfect game; Bill Mazeroski’s (1960) and Joe Carter’s (1993) bats from their Series-ending blasts; and World Series rings from the last century of Fall Classic competition.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is open seven days a week year round, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The excitement generated by the St. Louis Cardinals’ memorable World Series victory still resonates weeks after the final out of the 2011 Fall Classic.

That passion and those memories are forever a part of the story of baseball, and the story of the unforgettable 2011 postseason is now told in Cooperstown through “The Cardinals Comeback”, the salute to the World Champions as part of the Autumn Glory exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
