Andre Dawson has plenty of reasons to smile. Just ask Goose Gossage.
Once upon a time, it was just a really, really nice honor.
Recognized for being among the all-time best, a free and prominent seat on the stage for each and every election. A nice ring.
Election to the Baseball Hall of Fame is still worth all of that, but for players young enough to still take advantage, it’s also a huge financial boost. Demand from collectors is greater so the cost of an autograph goes up. Appearance fees at card shows do too.
Dawson appeared at a Field of Dreams store in suburban Chicago Saturday. Fees were $59.99 for a baseball or 8 by 10 photograph; $79.99 for equipment or larger flats; and $99.99 for bats and jerseys.
He’ll also be at the Cubs Convention next week.
Bill Madden of the New York Daily News lays out exactly what kind of money Dawson can expect from last week’s phone call.
