New Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn is being honored with a special commemorative in his hometown with fans having a chance to vote for the photo that adorns the autographed envelope.
wsRadio, a San Diego Internet Talk Radio Network, is sponsoring an online voting campaign for fans to choose their favorite image of Tony Gwynn.
To commemorate Gwynn’s Hall of Fame induction, a one of a kind first class postage stamp is currently on the drawing board. With three poses to choose from, the actual image for the stamp will be selected by Gwynn’s fans. To cast a vote, log onto this site. Voting will end at midnight on April 30. The winning image and envelope will be available in may for fans and collectors. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. (TAG).
The first postage stamp in a three part series was released in January, celebrating the official date of the Hall of Fame election results. As a twenty season veteran of the San Diego Padres, Gwynn is a long time resident of Poway, California. The Poway Post Office hand canceled 1019 units. Five hundred were personally autographed by Gwynn and the remaining five hundred featured a facsimile autograph. Inventory for the first series of stamps is still available.
Nineteen envelopes will be auctioned off on eBay in July. The cover (envelope) lists Gwynn’s major achievements, which include 3141 hits, 8 Time National League Batting Champ, 16 All Star Games, 5 Gold Gloves, a .338 lifetime batting average and his 3000th hit on 8.6.1999.
Gwynn will be officially inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York on July 29, 2007. wsRadio.com, sponsors of the initiative, is an Internet Talk Radio network producing over 80 talk shows which include eBay Radio for eBay Inc and several hobby-related shows.
