He’s been called the Gretzy of Gretzky collectors. Shawn Chaulk has sold off some of the remarkable number of game-worn Great One items he had in his world class collection but he now has something he can’t sell.
He’ll take this one to the grave, too.
Some take their love of sports cards to extreme levels like Mikey Douglas, the California man who put a T206 Wagner on his thigh. Chaulk is more about The Great One.
The president of a contracting company in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Chaulk recently spent 14 hours sitting for the hockey tattoo to end all hockey tattoos.
@WayneGretzky @GretzkyEstates @TrevorGretzky @PaulinaGretzky @janetgretzky here it is! Best hockey #tattoo ever on my arm. 14 hours of work by New Zealand based artist Steve Butcher. My collection is complete! Haha. #hockey #gretzky #nhl pic.twitter.com/GgiLTLHQ0l

He spoke with CBC about the process–and the New Zealand artist who created it.
NBC Nightly News did a story on the Babe Ruth game jersey that’s up for auction Saturday, talking with the family and Hunt Auctions:
He wasn’t in studio this time, but Gary Vaynerchuk was on Rich Eisen’s radio show Wednesday talking about the hobby. He’s got his own insert set in Topps Series 2 baseball, highlighting some MLB players who make his all-entrepreneur team but again outlined his bullishness on the hobby as a whole.
He’s also doing some investing. Vaynerchuk says he bought a PSA 7 Bill Russell rookie card for $17,000.
