An auction of memorabilia from hockey’s “royal family” will raise money for charity.
The Estate of Gordie Howe has provided several items from his career, with funds supporting The Howe Foundation. Sons Mark and Marty Howe have also provided items from their own collections, including rings, trophies, and personal keepsakes.
Until recently, several Gordie Howe items were on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame and are being made available for purchase for the first time. Those include the stick and puck he used to score his NHL record 801st goal, other game-used equipment, his Olympic torch and tracksuit, original Peanuts comic strip artwork in which he’s featured, a medal from Queen Elizabeth, and several NHL awards and trophies.
Mark and Marty Howe items up for bid include WHA Avco Cup Championship trophies, championship rings, a Rolex watch, milestone and commemorative plaques, a silver platter, game-used items, autographed hockey cards, awards, and original artwork.
A signed original scoresheet from Wayne Gretzky’s record-breaking 1,851st point game is one of several Gretzky items from the Howe archives up for bid. There’s also an Arnold Palmer signed-putter, Gordie Howe’s fishing rods, jewelry, autographs from Rocket Richard, Muhammad Ali, Ken Dryden and Mario Lemieux. The auction has over 400 items and ends the evening of April 25.
Net proceeds will be directed to The Howe Foundation, a charity started by Gordie and Colleen Howe to help needy children get involved in sports.
Bidding is now underway on the NHL.com platform. The auction can be found at frozenpond.com.
