A game-used Babe Ruth bat sold for over $98,000 in Vintage Authentics recent auction.
There may be plenty of talk about Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds at the moment, but when it comes to game-used memorabilia, the Bambino is still king.
A bat dating from the 1923-26 period of Babe Ruth’s career and bearing the markings of a bat that may have been used to hit one of his 714 career home runs sold for $98, 230 (including buyer’s premium) in Vintage Authentics catalog auction late last week.
The Ruth bat drew a perfect A10 grade from MEARS and was of the size and weight of those used by the Babe during the first half of his career. Among the other bats in the sale was a Shoeless Joe Jackson model which brought $23, 144.
