If you grew up in the late 1980s or 90s, Michael Jordan was your guy. If your first basketball memories came a little later, you probably took a fadeaway jumper and yelled “Kobe!” Upper Deck once held the rights to autographs for both and now one of the ten copies featuring their first dual-signed card is on the market.
Heritage Auctions is offering one of the ten 2000-01 UD Game Jersey Edition cards signed by two men with 11 NBA championships between them and bidding is expected to stretch well into six figures.
The card represents the hobby’s first dual swatch autograph issue and it’s also the first time Jordan and Bryant autographs appear on the same card.
Numbered 6/10, it’s the better of two examples authenticated and graded by Beckett at 8.5 for the card itself and 10 for the autograph. Subgrades include a 9.5 for centering and surface and 8.5 for edges and corners.
Heritage has placed a $300,000 pre-sale estimate on the card but bidding has already surpassed $170,000 with the buyer’s premium factored in ahead of next week’s auction close. In February, the company sold a 1997 Upper Deck swatch autograph (8/23) featuring only Jordan for $1.44 million.
The card is among the headliners in the Monthly Showcase auction, set to conclude on April 15.
