University of Georgia’s quarterback JT Daniels is the latest to take advantage of the new rules allowing college athletes to earn money.
Projected to be a Heisman Trophy contender, Daniels signed with SportsCollectibles.com and the company is already offering his signed memorabilia on its website. The 21-year-old Santa Ana, CA native began his career at USC in 2018 before transferring to Georgia prior to last season. Named the starter in late November, he led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 record and a win in the Peach Bowl. He completed 80 out of 119 attempts for 1,231 passing yards with 10 touchdowns.
Daniels is representing by ESM, a sports marketing agency that also represents Nick Chubb, Jalen Hurts, Jonathan Taylor, D’Andre Swift, new NFL draftee Mac Jones and others.
“We are excited about this partnership,” said Kenley Matheny, President of SportsCollectibles.com. “JT represents the type of premier athlete that we want to help promote and guide into the exciting frontier of name, image, and likeness benefits for college athletes.”
SportsCollectibles.com, through their GameDay Auctions (GDA) division, has had an ongoing presence on the Athens campus. For the last three seasons, (excluding 2020) GDA has been a sponsor of UGA Athletics and the official gameday in-stadium memorabilia auction facilitator. During home games, a percentage of the proceeds go to the school’s athletic program.
Other Georgia athletes are expected to participate with Daniels in both private and a public signings this coming season.
Over the last nine years, Matheny’s Tampa, FL-based company has hosted signings with Urban Meyer, Luke Kuechly, Nick Chubb, Pete Rose, Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, Bobby Bowden, Nick Saban and others.
