Not many regional sports card shows can trace their history back to a time when there was only one sports trading card manufacturer. This Saturday, one of them is back for the 37th year.
The Ephrata (PA) Lions Club is sponsoring its annual Sports Card Show and Auction on March 19 from 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Ephrata Recreation Center. The Rec Center is located at 130 South Academy Drive, Ephrata, PA, near the intersection of US 322 and PA 272.
Approximately 40 sports memorabilia dealers will be present to buy, sell, and trade baseball cards and other sports-related items. Dealer tables are sold out.
The Ephrata show offers one of the few remaining live auctions that were once a common part of the show circuit. The auction will begin at approximately 2:30. Over 250 items will be on the block, including sports card singles, sets, publications, autographs and other memorabilia. Cash and local checks are accepted but no credit cards.
Between 11:00 and 1:00, Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer will sign autographs for attendees purchasing tickets.
Admission to the show is $5.00 for adults, $1 for children under 12.
Autograph tickets are $35 each on a flat item or a baseball, or $45 for all other items such as equipment or jerseys. Only about 300 autograph tickets will be sold, and are only available on the day of the show. Additional autographs beyond the initial 300 will be sold if time permits, but ticket sales will stop at 12:30. No mail orders will be accepted, and there are no advanced ticket sales. Attendees may bring their own items to be autographed, or items may be purchased from dealers or from the Ephrata Lions Club.
A smaller silent auction runs from the start of the card show until 1:30, when the winning bidder must be present to claim their item.
Proceeds from the show and auction benefit the Ephrata area youth sports programs and the Ephrata Recreation Center.
