This time there was no pileup in the bleachers. No million dollar promise.
But at least we know for certain where the first home run ball hit at the new Yankee Stadium really is.
The Hall of Fame ball got CC Sabathia’s spikes. A signed ball from winning pitcher Cliff Lee. And the first grand slam home run ball off the bat of Grady Sizemore. Who winds up with the very first home run ball hit out of the new park–one that could carry a heavy price tag–isn’t known.
We do know, however, that a Yankee Stadium grounds crew member was the first to lay his hands on it but was quickly told "you’ve gotta give it up, you can’t keep that ball,’ "
Not long after an MLB authenticator was on the scene, taking the ball away to have it properly tagged. Provenance, you know.
