The pandemic-shortened 2020 season is just underway. Hopefully, things will be back to normal by next Opening Day and we are already getting a sneak peek at the design for 2021 Topps Baseball cards.
On Wednesday, the company posted a mockup of a Jo Adell rookie card that showcases what next year’s Series 1, 2, Update, Chrome and Topps Sapphire will look like on the surface.
For the first time in five years, white borders are returning to the design.
“Stripes” seems to be the theme with the player’s name in small font and team logo inside a diagonal stripe along the lower right with two additional, empty stripes on the opposite side. The Topps 70th anniversary logo is shown in silver at the top.
Some thought the design was a bit like 2019 Donruss…

Since the current season won’t be over for a while, we won’t get a look at what the backs will look like until just prior to release.
Listing Jo Adell as a rookie card for 2021 means we won’t see the Angels’ prospect’s official RCs until then. Topps did create a NOW card of his debut that went on sale Wednesday as part of the group of daily releases.
Here’s a look back at some Topps flagship designs from the recent past.
