Carl De Leo has two jobs, but he’s not complaining. The long time collector from suburban Chicago is a fire captain in a nearby community but he wanted to open up a card shop in his hometown of Batavia, IL. Finally, on February 25 of this year, the doors to All-Stars Cards and Memorabilia opened.
While he caters to Chicago teams, he also stocks thousands of vintage and modern cards–singles and boxes–to make sure it’s a place where kids and adults can find something.
Why open a sparkling new shop in the suburbs when a lot of hobby shops are struggling?
To create a family friendly sports hangout.
“You have to know the passion that I have for this,” De Leo told Batavis Patch for this story. “When I get out of the firehouse, I’m here the next morning.”
