At age 22, he’s already the face of the franchise. Despite a shortened second season due to COVID and some more time missed with injuries, he’s already hit 81 homers. Now, the jersey Fernando Tatis wore in his Major League Baseball debut is on the block in the Fanatics Holiday Auction.
As rookie gamers go, it’s a tough one to beat.
Not only is the home white jersey the one Tatis Jr. wore when he first took the field and collected his first major league hit for the San Diego Padres on March 28, 2019, it’s the same one he wore four days later when he belted his first big league home run. He signed it on the back and added the inscription, “G/U MLB Debut 1st Hit 3/28/19” and “G/U 1st Career HR 4/1/19”.
The jersey is authenticated by Major League Baseball and includes the MLB and Fanatics holograms. The current high bid is $54,000. Tatis went 2-for-3 in his debut, becoming the youngest player with a multi-hit game on Opening Day since 19-year-old Robin Yount did it for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1975.
Tatis Jr. wore the jersey in five total games (3/28, 3/30-4/3 and 4/16).
The size 46 Majestic button down has the interlocking “SD” patch on the right sleeve while the left has anniversary patches for the Padres (50th season) and MLB (150th).
The jersey is part of a larger auction of memorabilia and cards that also includes a PSA 10 Michael Jordan rookie card, a Ty Cobb autographed bat, a Babe Ruth signed baseball, a collection of ticket stubs from each of Ruth’s World Series homers, championship rings and four dozen additional items.
Bidding is set to continue through December 6.
