A new collaboration between Fanatics Collect and CGC Cards is aiming to create the hobby’s fastest turnaround times for grading.
Beginning Sept. 16, CGC Cards is establishing a full-time authentication and grading operation at Fanatics Collect’s facility in Tigard, Oregon (formerly PWCC).
The service will be available to any Fanatics Collect user who submits raw cards for grading and sale in a Weekly or Premier Auction, or in the Buy Now marketplace or vaulting.
Users will have access to preferred pricing of $9 per card – regardless of the card’s market value.
The two companies also plan to launch an authentication-only service together, providing expert review and verification of a card’s authenticity.
The two companies said their new service will offer a lower-priced alternative to encapsulation and numerical grading. By utilizing on-site authentication and grading, the transit time between Fanatics and CGC Cards will be eliminated, allowing collectors to receive their graded cards faster.
CGC Cards is owned by Certified Collectors Group and has certified more than 6 million sports and non-sports cards since July 2020.
“We want to give collectors the best possible experience, and we’re delighted to partner with CGC Cards and have their team establish a full-time on-site operation with us in Oregon,” Fanatics Collect CEO Nick Bell said in a statement. “This partnership will enable our companies to provide the smoothest, most convenient, and quickest grading experience in the industry.”
The partnership, unique to the hobby, is a major development toward giving collectors and dealers the fastest route in turning raw cards into graded ones, helping them reach the market quickly.
“Fanatics Collect is constantly innovating and improving the collector experiences of buying, selling, and now grading,” Max Spiegel, president of the Certified Collectibles Group, stated. “CGC Cards is honored to have been selected to provide its services on-location at Fanatics Collect.”
The companies said there would be no submission minimums or maximums. They added that collectors will be able to skip the paperwork and other obstacles—including photography, tilting listing, payment chasing and multiple sends — that traditionally slow down the process of grading.
Fanatics Collect will be in charge of managing payments and facilitating ownership transfers.
