Fanatics is back in the auction business and their first event since the company’s relaunch runs the gamut from Babe Ruth to Conor McGregor.
The 50-lot online catalog includes some one-of-a-kind items that have never been made available to the public before, a smattering of vintage and modern trading cards and game-used memorabilia.
The auction includes a signed Babe Ruth Louisville Slugger bat, with a signature carrying both PSA/DNA and JSA authentication. The bat has a bold Ruth black fountain pen signature that was placed over a sanded portion of the barrel right on the bat’s sweet spot.
There’s also a 1933 Yankees team signed baseball with 20 autographs including Ruth and Lou Gehrig and a lower grade 1933 Goudey Gehrig card.
The Ruth memorabilia is currently being upstaged by a pair of McGregor items. His fight-worn gloves and wraps from UFC 246, held in January, are on the block with a current high bid of $34,000.
McGregor’s shorts from his 40-second knockout of Donald Cerrone are also in the auction with a current high bid of $21,000. The 32-year-old UFC superstar said in June that his bout with Cerrone would be the last of his career.
Wayne Gretzky’s game-used jersey from the 1991 NHL All-Star Game is another of the high-end lots in the auction. He served as captain for the Wales Conference squad for the game in Chicago.
Among the more recent game-used memorabilia is a 2009 Derek Jeter bat used in post-season play. The retired shortstop has signed and inscribed the bat in silver marker and added two inscriptions. The first one reads “09 POST SEASON GAME USED”, and the second inscription reads “1ST WS WON IN NEW STADIUM” along the front barrel. Jeter’s 1998 MLB All-Star cap is also in the auction.
Also up for grabs: a pair of game-used and autographed Air Jordan 34 “Bayou Boys” P.E. shoes worn by Zion Williamson during the February 25 game with the Lakers in which he scored 29 points. Williamson has signed and inscribed the right shoe “GAME USED 2/25/20 VS LAKERS 29 PTS 6 REBS” and also signed the left shoe.
Collectors can also bid on game-used jerseys from Mariano Rivera, Cody Bellinger, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Anthony Rizzo, Baker Mayfield, Henrik Lundqvist, Donovan Mitchell and others.
Among the trading cards in the auction is a 2000 Playoff Contenders Tom Brady rookie autograph (BGS 9/10), a complete 1986-87 Fleer basketball set with each card graded 8.5 by PSA, a 1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle PSA 8, a PSA 7 1951 Willie Mays rookie card, a 1957 Topps Bill Russell rookie card graded PSA 5 and a 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee hockey box.
The auction runs through Wednesday, August 19.
