He’s been offered $20,000 but Seattle Seahawks’ fan Scott Shelton says the only way he’s giving up the football that won the NFC Championship Sunday is if he can personally hand it back to Jermaine Kearse.
Shelton was sitting in end zone seats when Kearse hauled in the long pass from Russell Wilson in overtime to complete a miraculous comeback. In celebration, Kearse heaved the ball into the stands where it bounced and landed in Shelton’s hands.
Kearse later called and offered his autographed jersey and helmet from the game to get the ball back, but Shelton hasn’t decided what he’s going to do yet. He has a young son he might save it for, too.
Shelton, it turns out, probably could use that money. He’s been in some trouble with the law and will be going to jail the day after the Super Bowl, according to KOMO-TV in Seattle. They caught up with him the day after the big moment.
