It isn’t often a Pro Football Hall of Famer turns his jerseys directly over to a card company to be cut up for use on trading cards but that’s what Emmitt Smith has done.
The NFL’s all-time leading rusher is incorporating technology developed by his own company to add a layer of authenticity to some of Panini’s upcoming football card products.
PROVA is a company Smith started to tag game-worn items for authentication through a database.
Evry Smith memorabilia card produced for 2016 Flawless Football will include an undetectable PROVA SmarTag that, when scanned with PROVA’s LEGIT app, will unlock unique information regarding the memorabilia used on that particular card. Each SmarTag is tracked in PROVA’s secure online database and allows collectors to access information about the card anytime. The PROVA system provides a digital record permanently attached to the card. Regardless of who owns it, the history is always accessible using a smart device or computer.
Smith was at Panini’s Dallas offices to talk about the new cards and technology.
