The ripple effect of the Black Swamp Find had eBay on the phone with some of its sellers this week, lining up a special promotion that has put baseball cards on the home page of the online auction behemoth.
No doubt looking to capture the ongoing public interest in the attic find of some 700 lost in time E98 caramel cards, eBay will feature cards and sports memorabilia as one of four featured categories on its main landing page from now through July 22. The page opens up to a full-length Summer Catch section in which users can access the listings.
eBay chose five sellers to highlight: Rick Probstein (probstein123), Sundiego Collectibles, Mill Creek Sports, Press Pass Sports and Heritage Auctions, which landed the E98 collection. Each will have links to their 10-day auctions directly visible to millions of eBay visitors during the time frame. Probstein is one of eBay’s most prolific sports card sellers, having recorded over 2,400 sales for a total of $162,000 in a 30-day period tracked by Sports Collectors Daily last winter.
Judging from the items posted by the sellers, eBay encouraged them to list higher valued or popular items like vintage baseball card sets, Mickey Mantle cards, championship rings and autographs.
The highlighted sellers also gain the possible benefit of being spotlighted as dealers who are willing to buy vintage cards and collectibles as Americans motivated by the news of the E98 windfall that awaits an Ohio family look to cash in as well.
