eBay will enter the live online selling space with a new dedicated shopping platform for collectibles set to launch next week.
Called eBay Live, the events will offer potential customers the chance to interact live with sellers, learning more about a specific item and the option to buy products directly in the stream.
The new beta technology “combines entertainment with instant purchasing,” according to the company.
The first segment is set for Wednesday, June 22 at 3 PM Eastern time and will offer a curated selection of trading cards from eBay seller Bleecker Trading. The event will be hosted by DJ Skee. Jess Mineo of Bleecker Trading will offer modern cards including a 1995 Topps Finest Michael Jordan M1 Red Bordered Refractor PSA 9 MINT and a 1998 Kobe Bryant Skybox That’s Jam PSA 10.
“We are always looking for new ways to connect with our fellow collectors,” Mineo remarked. “eBay has always provided us with the incredible reach of a global platform, and their eBay Live beta technology now gives us the opportunity to highlight our offering in a more personal, meaningful way.”
Accessible on the eBay app and at ebay.com/eBayLive, collectors and the curious will be able to interact with both DJ Skee and Bleecker Trading directly in the chat and through reaction buttons– with the option to purchase any of the cards directly from the livestream.
Another event is planned for late next month live from the floor of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City.
“As the collector community grows, we’re offering a new live platform that combines an engaging environment with incredible ease, allowing our community to come together over shared interests and merchandise, stated Dawn Block, VP Collectibles, Electronics and Home at eBay. Currently in beta, eBay Live will deliver a more streamlined, entertaining and sophisticated way for our community to connect, buy and sell.”
It’s the second trading card oriented announcement eBay has made this month. On June 7, the company launched its trading card vault program.
