A group of rare-backed T206 baseball cards sold at auction last week for nearly $25,000.
Ten cards from a find of 41 rare T206 baseball cards with an advertisement for Drum Cigarettes on the back were sold in the second sale conducted by Chicago-based Legendary Auctions.
The consignment was announced back in March and the sale of the first ten examples brought collectors to the table who chase the more rare back variations from the iconic set, celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The top selling card from the group was a PSA 3 graded Ed Lennox card which brought a winning bid of $3300. A Doc Marshall card, graded PSA 2, sold for $3000.
The Legendary auction was highlighted by the sale of a group of 27 signed Michael Jordan giclées. The collection, which featured six different scenes, brought $12,000 including the buyer’s premium; an average cost of $444 per signed piece.
Another group of 11 Tiger Woods giclees, all autographed, sold for $6600, an average price of $600 each.
A group of 270 photographs from the archives of SPORT magazine, many featuring Hall of Famers from a variety of sports, went for $6600. A massive collection of 2700 Ralph Kiner signed checks sold for $6600.
