Donruss was hoping fans would gobble up special turkey day trading cards at NFL game sites.
For the third year in a row, the Donruss trading card company handed out more than 120,000 free promotional packs of exclusive NFL trading cards at NFL Thanksgiving Day games – this year in Dallas and Philadelphia.
"Thanksgiving is a day when families are together and watching football," said Donruss/Playoff Vice President Mike Anderson. "This is a great day for us to reach these families and introduce them to the fun of collecting trading cards."
To reinforce the spirit of giving during the holidays, the packs in Dallas include a special card promoting the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser which kicks off during halftime at the game. The card pictures Dallas running back Marion Barber sporting a red Salvation Army apron while serving food to the needy. Previous Cowboys players to don the red apron on Donruss cards are DeMarcus Ware and Roy Williams. Other players featured in the Cowboys set include Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, rookie Felix Jones, and Hall of Fame Defensive End Randy White.
The Philadelphia set includes Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, Brian Dawkins and former Eagles signal caller Randal Cunningham. The pack will also include an Eagles Kids Club card featuring mascot SWOOP. The Dawkins card also highlights the team’s charitable entity, the Youth Partnership.
Both the Cowboys and Eagles packs also contained a card featuring NFL Network host Rich Eisen and former NFL players turned broadcasters Deion Sanders, Warren Sapp, Rod Woodson, Terrell Davis, Marshall Faulk and former NFL coach Steve Mariucci. Each card features the full NFL Network schedule of games on the flip side.
