There’s no bigger fan of Don Mattingly (at least in his hometown) than the woman who spent 9 1/2 hours waiting for an autograph session to begin…so she could get him for the 69th time.
Don Mattingly will spend the 2007 baseball season as the New York Yankees’ bench coach. His off-seasons, though, are spent tending to the family homestead in Indiana and helping son Preston prepare for his first full minor league season.
Don is devoted to helping raise money for youth sports programs in the area by his involvement with the Tri State Hot Stove League’s "Night of Memories" each February. The hometown boy made good story is the main reason fellow Evansville resident "Babee" Pickett has more Mattingly memorabilia than you can shake a Louisville Slugger at.
She was up real early Saturday morning, grabbing the first place in line (as usual) for the event where Mattingly (as usual) was a featured autograph guest.
