A man hoping to raise money has been told an old bat he had in the garage might be quite a find. But is it really?
If he’d known then what he knows now, a Massachusetts man never would have let his grandkids play with that old baseball bat.
It’s an Eddie Collins decal bat, worn down unfortunately by years of use. But initials on the knob of the bat match up with those of Red Sox Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr. The 91 year-old former 2nd baseman even claims to have used such a bat during his playing days.
But did he really?
Doerr’s COA is a little short on detail and the history of decal bats would lean more toward a store model. But you hope somehow he’s right because the reason Art Goodall is trying to sell the bat makes you want to bid on it, regardless of what it might be.
