Unopened boxes of current era sports cards purchased through one major dealer can now be entombed in an acrylic display box. That’s just one element of a new add-on program for sealed product that’s being offered by Dave & Adam’s—one that also includes a video component for provenance.
The company has unveiled its new “Factory Fresh” and “Case Fresh” options for boxes and cases it receives from trading card manufacturers.
“Unopened boxes and cases have been a proven investment over the last several years,” Dave & Adam’s Owner and Founder Adam Martin said. “However, we have seen an increase in fraud in the unopened box and case market, some of which has been very public. With our program, any box or case you purchase from the Fresh program came from the factory to us and is 100% untampered with.”
Factory Fresh is a case that came to the company’s inventory directly from the manufacturer. The case is shrink-wrapped by machine in a Dave & Adam’s cello wrap. The wrapped product receives its own security label and a QR code that links to a video showing the entire process of that specific case being wrapped.
The Case Fresh program contains a box of cards that Dave & Adam’s pulls directly from a sealed case acquired from the manufacturer. The box is placed in an acrylic display case with tamper-proof security stickers and then wrapped with the QR code security label applied. The video will show a company employee cracking open the case that held the box.
“The video service is unlike anything else that exists in the hobby,” said Don White, the program’s director. “You’re going to get a behind the scenes look at how your product is handled.”
A video the company posted online shows the wrapping and sealing processes.
Collectors will choose whether or not to pay extra for a case or box that’s sealed under the Fresh program. Among its Factory Fresh wrapped cases, the cost of 2022 Bowman Jumbo is $175 higher than an unwrapped case while individual boxes sealed in the acrylic holder are $50 higher under the Fresh program.
Located near Buffalo, NY, the company operates several warehouse facilities in Tonawanda, NY, in addition to a retail superstore located in Williamsville, NY, a second location in partnership with Topps Trading Cards in Cooperstown, NY as well as a retail store and facility in Roermond, Netherlands.
